BTC Markets has announced two senior leadership appointments as the Australian digital asset sector enters a more defined regulatory and licensing phase.
Lucas Dobbins has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, while Paul Stonham joins as Chief Commercial Officer.
Dobbins has been with BTC Markets for more than seven years, most recently as Chief Technology Officer. He has over 18 years’ experience designing and operating secure, high-availability systems across broadcast media, finance and digital assets.
Dobbins began working with Bitcoin in the early 2010s, building mining infrastructure and experimenting with decentralised systems.
Since joining BTC Markets in 2018 as a Frontend Engineer, he has led a full rebuild of the exchange’s technology stack, strengthened operational controls, and guided the business through periods of market growth and regulatory scrutiny.
As CEO, he will focus on institutional partnerships, product development, and regulatory alignment.

“Digital asset markets are moving into a more structured and accountable phase,”
Dobbins said.
“Exchanges need to be engineered for resilience, transparency and long-term trust.”
Paul Stonham brings experience across financial markets, market infrastructure and technology-led growth, including senior roles at the ASX and global financial institutions.
He will lead BTC Markets’ commercial function, covering client growth, partnerships, pricing strategy and margin governance.

“BTC Markets has built a strong foundation through multiple market cycles,”
Stonham said.
“As regulatory expectations become clearer, there’s a real opportunity to deepen institutional engagement and deliver products that meet the standards clients are accustomed to in other parts of the financial system.”
