Macropod has completed a live retail payment at a Sydney cafe using AUDM, a stablecoin that operates under an Australian Financial Services License.
The transaction took place at Blue Brew Cafe in Redfern. The customer used a wallet-native system developed by infrastructure provider OpenPasskey to purchase a coffee.
Customers pay by scanning a QR code at the point of sale, allowing the merchant to receive the AUDM payment almost instantly in their digital wallet.
This process provides immediate liquidity. It removes the settlement delays typical of traditional card networks and gives small businesses faster access to cash flow.
OpenPasskey’s technology integrates these stablecoin payments with digital loyalty rewards to create a streamlined checkout experience for hospitality venues.

“Behind that simple moment, regulated Australian dollar stablecoins were settling instantly on-chain,”
said Drew Bradford, CEO of Macropod.
He added that the customer experienced a simple QR code payment and the merchant received funds immediately.
Macropod plans a broader rollout of AUDM payments to more merchants.
The company intends for the stablecoin to support treasury operations, settlement infrastructure, and tokenised financial markets in Australia.
