National Australia Bank (NAB) has expanded its multi-cloud strategy by adding Google Cloud to its existing partnerships with Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
This makes NAB the first major bank in the Southern Hemisphere to operate across all three major cloud providers, with almost 90% of its applications now cloud-based.
NAB Executive Enterprise Technology, Steve Day, said the milestone represents a key step in the bank’s ongoing transformation.

“We’ve been on a multi-year transformation, moving from an on-premises environment to an insourced, cloud-first model to deliver better availability and experiences for our customers,”
said Day.
“When we started out in 2018, only 2% of our applications were on cloud. By the end of this year, we’ll reach 90%, placing us among the global leaders for a bank of our size.”
According to Day, the shift has improved reliability and operational resilience.
“Our architecture is now built to run anywhere, portable and scalable. We’ve seen an 89% reduction in critical and high outages and faster deployment of new products and features,”
he said.
The integration of Google Cloud adds further capability to NAB’s technology environment.
NAB has also extended its relationship with Microsoft until 2031, alongside its long-term collaboration with AWS, which remains its primary cloud provider for core applications.
