Mastercard has restored payment processing in Australia following a disruption linked to a scheduled system update.

Normal service resumed after some transactions were declined on Saturday, Bloomberg reported.

Mastercard did not disclose how long the interruption lasted or how many customers were affected.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia earlier linked the payment failures to a broader problem involving Mastercard.

The bank said its own ATMs and other services remained available during the disruption.

Customers in several Australian states reported difficulties using cards and some mobile payment services, according to ABC News.

Downdetector received more than 1,900 user reports by 3.27pm in Sydney, although the figure does not represent a confirmed number of affected customers.
