The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has acknowledged TMX Group’s completion of its acquisition of Cboe Australia, following regulatory approval under section 852DG of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
Chi-X Australia launched the platform in 2011 as an alternative trading venue to the ASX, and Cboe Global Markets acquired it in 2021.
The Canadian financial market infrastructure group will rebrand the exchange as TMX Australia Exchange as both parties complete the transition of ownership.
TMX Group, which operates the Toronto Stock Exchange, announced its proposal to acquire Cboe Australia in April 2026.
ASIC said it will continue providing regulatory oversight during the transition period, including reviewing any required market operating rule changes to ensure clarity for issuers and market participants.
Cboe Australia currently accounts for around 20% of Australia’s equity market turnover, representing approximately A$2 billion in daily trades.
ASIC said increased competition in financial markets can provide greater choice for investors while supporting foreign investment and international alignment.
The regulator previously approved Cboe Australia’s application to operate as a corporate listings market in October 2025.
